Sweden, Texas is an abandoned ghost town in Duval County, Texas, four miles southwest of Benavides just off of Farm-to-Market Road 359.[1] The post office first opened in 1884, but closed the next year. It closed permantly in 1932 after it reopened in 1907. The population peaked at a mere twenty-five in 1914 and continued to drop until no more citizens resided there. The school that was open there consolidated with Benavides in the 1950s, as the community quickly went downhill from there.[2]
